Static non-floating model of Greek birema from the 6th century BC in 1:72 scale is offered by Dušek company. The boat's crew consisted of 50 rowers, who sat in two rows above each other (25 on each side) and up to 10 other soldiers. In battle, the rowers abandoned their oars and fought with shields and swords. To sink enemy ships, a spike on the bow keel was used to ram the hull of the enemy ship. The boat was controlled by two steering oars at the stern. The main propulsion was by oars, the sail was used only for longer voyages. During the battle, the sail and mast were lowered aft and the ship was propelled solely by oars.
