How to Choose a Vacuum Cleaner Nozzle

Inner diameter

The most important factor for choosing a nozzle for a vacuum cleaner is its size, i.e. the inner diameter. Most manufacturers supply vacuum cleaners with a hose diameter of 32 and 35mm. However, if you measure their outer diameter, it will actually be 1 to 2mm smaller — this is why you can slide a 32mm wide nozzle on a 32mm vacuum cleaner tube or suction hose. The same applies to nozzles with a width of 35mm.

Universal vacuum cleaner nozzle

Universal nozzles offer fixed adapters or adapters that can be widened or narrowed manually. This allows you to connect the nozzle to variously sized tubes. When replacing the vacuum cleaner, you can still use your favourite nozzle without having to buy another, which saves you money. The only exception are conical, oval, or otherwise exotically shaped tubes that are generally incompatible with universal nozzles. 

Vacuum cleaner nozzles sorted by use

• Carpet nozzles - often sold as an all-purpose floor nozzle with an integrated brush for deep carpet cleaning.
• Hard floor nozzles - ideal for parquets, tiles, or linoleum floorings. The brush has shorter bristles and doesn't damage the floor.
• Pet hair nozzles - usually equipped with a special brush or catcher for animal hair.
• Upholstery and textile care nozzles - instead of a classic bristled brush, these nozzles are equipped with gentle strip brushes that loosen and collect dirt and dust without damaging the upholstery.
• Crevice nozzles - specially shaped vacuum cleaner attachments used can handle the vacuuming of crevices, corners, radiators, or even a PC.

Extra Features 

• Rotating brushes - effectively clean carpet fibers and deep-set dirt, but they are also useful for cleaning hair and animal fur.
• Guiding wheels - for easier movement on the vacuumed surface.
• Mop attachments - if your vacuum cleaner supports wet vacuuming, you can use a mop attachment and do some proper wet cleaning.
