Intel Core i7-14700F

The Intel Core i7-14700F processor from the Raptor Lake Refresh generation boosts the computing power of gaming rigs and workstations. Its hybrid architecture combines eight Performance-cores with twelve Efficient-cores for smooth handling of demanding applications and background tasks. This processor does not include an integrated graphics chip, so it requires a dedicated graphics card to operate. It is designed for motherboards with an FCLGA1700 socket and supports both DDR5 and DDR4 RAM.

Hybrid architecture of the Intel Core i7-14700F processor

At the heart of its performance is a combination of two core types. Eight Performance-cores (P-cores) handle primary tasks like gaming or computationally intensive programs. Twelve Efficient-cores (E-cores) manage system processes and background applications. The Intel Thread Director technology ensures tasks are correctly assigned, intelligently optimising the workload distribution and contributing to the smooth running of the entire system.

High clock speed of the Intel Core i7-14700F processor

Under load, the processor runs at a frequency of up to 5.4GHz, resulting in a fast system response and short loading times in applications. Performance when working with large volumes of data and in games is boosted by a 33MB L3 cache along with a 28MB L2 cache. These fast caches reduce latency by storing frequently used data for immediate access by the cores.

Processor cores and threads

Processor cores, to a certain extent, work like individual processors, handling computing tasks independently of each other. Therefore, the more physical cores a processor has, the more tasks it can process simultaneously. Threads can be described as separate virtual cores, which all modern processors have. Typically, an eight-core processor will have sixteen threads, enabling it to process sixteen processes at the same time.
Intel processors

Processor frequency

The operating frequency indicates the processor's speed. Generally, a processor with a higher frequency can execute instructions faster than one with a lower frequency. A higher frequency ensures snappier and quicker responses during everyday computer use, such as launching applications, browsing the internet, or editing documents. It ranges from 1 to 5GHz. Some CPUs can temporarily increase their frequency under heavy load (Turbo Boost).
Intel processors

L2 and L3 cache

For the processor to work as fast as possible, it needs fast storage where it can save temporary data. The L2 and L3 caches, located directly on the processor, serve this purpose. Although these memories are significantly smaller than RAM, they are also faster. L2 and L3 are the first storage locations the processor works with, and generally, the larger, the better.
Intel processors

Processor socket

Before you choose a new processor, you should know which hardware connector (socket) your motherboard has for the CPU. The processor and motherboard must have the same socket designation; this is the first step to a functional build. Another important factor is the type of RAM. You should know what type of RAM you have.
Intel processors

TDP (Thermal Design Power)

TDP (Thermal Design Power) is a processor parameter that indicates the amount of heat it produces at maximum load, while also suggesting its energy consumption. A lower TDP means the processor consumes less power and generates less heat, which is ideal for laptops or energy-efficient systems. Conversely, processors with a high TDP offer higher performance but require advanced cooling to prevent overheating.
Intel processors

CPU cooling

A processor, much like a graphics card, generates heat during operation that needs to be dissipated to keep the processor cool. Some chip packages already include a cooler, but if you want to be absolutely sure you can handle the processor's output, you should get an external one. External CPU coolers come in various sizes and performance levels, and many support stylish RGB backlighting. You can choose from both traditional air cooling and modern liquid cooling options.
