120 BPM - DVD

120 BPM - DVD
The early 1990s. For a decade, AIDS has been claiming countless lives, yet activists from the Paris chapter of the ACT UP movement are still battling public indifference, government apathy, and the scheming of pharmaceutical companies.
Newcomer Nathan meets Sean, a radical member of the movement whose political struggle is also a fight for his own life. Sean is HIV positive and his time is running out.
In his film 120 BPM, which earned him the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2017, French director Robin Campillo adopts a powerful queer perspective, organically weaving together the personal and the political. The film's title refers both to monitoring heart activity and the thumping house music beat of the era's dance clubs, offering an unconventional look at members of a specific community who chose to "live politics in the first person".
