The Most Famous Hockey Players of All Time in the Clearest Edition
Ben Lerner is one of the most distinctive—and respected—voices in contemporary American literature. Each new novel he publishes receives considerable attention from leading British and American newspapers and literary magazines, with reviews being almost universally enthusiastic. This holds true for the author's second novel, 10:04, originally published in 2015. It is even considered the pinnacle of Lerner's work to date.
"A great writer, a great novel," was how the British newspaper The Guardian hailed the book in its review at the time, and that assessment still stands: the novel, framed by two storms, Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, and saturated with the narrator's anxiety, is a powerful statement about contemporary America and the fragile, vulnerable ego of young men today.
Lerner offers no easy solutions to the crisis; instead, he presents an elegant portrait of the current state of affairs and a precise literary analysis of the factors that led to it. It is as if his other talents are also at play here: Lerner is not only a respected prose writer but also an acclaimed poet, essayist, and Professor of English at Brooklyn College in New York.
What they wrote about the book:
Ben Lerner possesses an extraordinary sense of orchestration, an unprecedented vocal range, and a refined linguistic tuning (…) His writing represents the pinnacle of contemporary American prose.
- New York Times
Despite the author's immensely broad scope and stylistic mastery, his books are accessible to anyone who wants to learn something significant about our troubled times.
- Washington Post
