8 Heads of Madness - DVD

8 Heads of Madness - DVD
An unconventional biopic about the Russian poet Anna Barkova (1901–1976).
Soviet Russia, 1921 – young Anna has a stellar career ahead of her. Her first collection has just been published, and she is said to be the greatest Russian poet, destined to overshadow Pushkin himself.
Just a few years later, she finds herself crammed into a freight wagon heading for the uninhabited steppes of Kazakhstan. It will not be her only journey, nor her only camp. The poet Anna Alexandrovna Barkova spent 22 years of her life in Soviet Gulag camps and in exile.
The film's title, 8 Heads of Madness, refers to Anna Barkova's novella of the same name, as well as to the eight heads – or chapters – into which the film is divided. Each chapter has its own distinct style, transporting the viewer to a different period of the poet's life. Together, they form a compelling story of an exceptionally talented artist swept up in the historical events of the 20th century in the Soviet Union.
