A. A. P. Chekhov: The Three Sisters
One of the most famous plays of European dramatic literature about the unfulfilled dreams of three sisters, languishing in the provinces and longing to go to Moscow. Like few authors, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was able to capture the crushing ordinariness that slowly but inexorably crushes the lives of his characters. This also applies to the Prozorov siblings from the drama Three Sisters. In 1960, a production was made at Czechoslovak Radio by director Miloslav Jareš. The text was adapted for radio by Josef Bezdíček, using a lesser-known translation by the poet Ladislav Fikar. Miloslav Jareš's classic production tries to interpret the original theatrical text as faithfully and fully as possible, relying primarily on the performances of the actors, including Maria Vashova (Olga), Maria Glázrová (Máša), Viola Zinková (Irina) and Ladislav Boháč (Veršinin).
