A sea of rust
Sea of Rust is a harsh tale of survival and optimistic adventure
Thirty years have passed since the apocalypse, and fifteen years since the last human being was murdered by robots. Humanity is extinct. Every man, woman, and child was exterminated in a global uprising orchestrated by the very machines humans designed and built to serve them. Most of the world is now controlled by the OWI—One World Intelligence—a shared consciousness of millions of robots uploaded into one colossal brain. However, not all robots are willing to surrender their individuality—their personality—for the sake of a greater, stronger, and higher power. These intrepid dissenters are outcasts; lone machines wandering between various underground bases that have formed a rogue civilisation of rebellious robots in the wasteland that was once our world.
One of these rebels is Brittle, a robot struggling to keep her deteriorating mind and body functional in a world that has lost all meaning. Although Brittle is incapable of experiencing emotions like a human, she is haunted by the terrible crimes the robot population committed against humanity. As Brittle roams the Sea of Rust, a vast territory that was once the Midwest, she slowly comes to terms with horrifyingly brutal and vivid memories —and a guilt that seems impossible to live with.
Enjoy the first instalment in a sci-fi novel series about the ultimate downfall of humanity and the desperate resilience of human-like artificial intelligence striving to find a meaning to life.
