A fantasy story with horror elements that complements Stephen King's successful The Dark Tower saga
The hero of a series that has taken one of the most prolific authors of our time over three decades to complete has reached his destination in Volume 7, but the world of The Last Gunslinger is still full of stories. A whiff of the keyhole therefore returns between the 4th and 5th episode of the series.
However, the storyline deviates from the main line and the audience will enjoy the story, whether they know the Middle World or are going there for the first time. Readers of the Dark Tower series will meet Roland of Gilead and his ka-tet again: Eddie, Susannah, Jake and Ocho. As they wander along the Path of the Ray, they are caught in a violent storm that forces them to stay in shelter for some time. Outside, the wind is howling and the trees are cracking, and Roland tells not one strange story, but two, shedding fascinating light on his difficult past. After his mother's death, the father of a young guilty gunslinger sent Roland to a remote farm to investigate a mysterious murder. At the scene, Roland discovers a bloody tangle of human and animal footprints and a horrific slaughter. Only one witness survived: brave but scared boy Bill Streeter. Roland, then barely out of childhood himself, soothes the boy by telling him a story from the Book of Eld, which his mother used to read to him at bedtime: "A whiff through the keyhole". "You're never too old for stories," Roland tells Bill. "Man and boy, girl and woman, all live for them."
