Princess Blanka meets secretly with the huntsman Ondrej and rejects all the noble suitors invited to the castle by the king. The king has had enough of his daughter's whims and locks her in the tower. For the suitors, the king devises a task - to find the entrance to the tower. When Ondra meets a bear, he thinks of dressing up as a bear.

Franta, the fearless shepherd, was not afraid of the two woodcutters who had been scaring the travellers for a long time. He confessed to them that he didn't know what fear was. They sent the shepherd to the mill, from which the miller and his daughter Verunka moved out because of the ghosts. Franta sleeps in the mill and gets rid of the curse. But he leaves alone, because for the first time he feels fear that Verunka will not want him.
