Abraxas: Calm down! - CD

According to Slávek Janda, this is the most upbeat album in the band's history! The founder, guitarist, and leader of Abraxas attributes the band's new lease of life to last year's tribute to its past, the 2CD Tribute, but primarily to the sixty concerts that Slávek Janda (guitar, synth, vocals), Miroslav Imrich (vocals, show), Ivan Doležálek (bass, vocals), and Eduard Štěpánek (drums) played together in 2014. Combined with the crucial work of lyricist and manager Petr Soukup, a total of 11 tracks emerged, somewhat paradoxically named after the exceptionally slowest one among them.

It's still the good old Abraxas, a unique combination of rock, funk, disco, Latin, and new-wave sprints. Alongside the unmistakable guitar solos, there are moments of a real ride with hard rock riffs and radical rapping on topics about the annoyances around us or the tricks of the pharmaceutical industry, but also about our inner black and white nature or the need to just have a dance now and then. The music was written entirely by Slávek Janda, who in two cases used his own material from the eighties, perfectly transplanted into the overall sound of this year.

The album was recorded and mixed at the Cobra studio in Vinohrady, with subsequent mastering taking place at the M8 Service studio in England. The project's booklet features a set of special photographs, several music videos are being produced, and there will be concerts throughout the year—in short, Abraxas is back with full energy and big plans. The Tribute album clearly proved that their musical legacy is a major cover attraction for many Czech bands and singers, from an R'n'B vocalist to rock-style big bands and electronic experimenters. Now it's Abraxas's turn to prove they're still going strong—and this fresh studio album certainly achieves that.

Abraxas's new album: these eleven songs will definitely not leave you sitting still!
