AC locomotives - single phase electric vehicles
The production of electric locomotives at the Škoda factory in Plzeň has a century-long tradition. In the 1920s, the first electric locomotives for a voltage of 1,500V were produced, and in the 1960s, the development and production of single-phase electric locomotives for a voltage of 25kV and 50Hz began, both for domestic customers and for export. The publication first describes the origin and development of AC traction and focuses primarily on the individual locomotive series, including their operational deployment. It also covers the establishment of the subsidiary companies ČD Cargo and Cargo Slovakia, details further electrification plans for the reader, and maps some of the accidents involving AC electric locomotives that led to their decommissioning. It is supplemented with a complete list of single-phase electric locomotives with the necessary data, diagrams of all series, and predominantly colour photographs, including images of locomotives operated by private carriers. The book is currently the only one that provides a comprehensive overview of single-phase electric locomotives operated on the railways in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
