Activation of geriatric patients
The publication describes the care of patients suffering from dementia in the specific environment of long-term care facilities (LDN). The author draws on the real care system in the Czech Republic and focuses on the therapeutic vacuum in this system.
The possibilities, risks and legislative restrictions in relation to the care provided are discussed. The complexity of care focused primarily on patients suffering from degenerative diseases is a multidisciplinary problem for helping professions. An analysis of the basic areas of the issue leads to a key understanding of the degenerative disease and its pitfalls for both the patient and the care provider.
There are plenty of books on the general topic of caring for patients with dementia on our market, but they usually relate to diagnosis and therapy and are intended for healthcare personnel. Another group of publications intervenes in the field of social care and its target group is social workers, family members or people suffering from dementia themselves. However, many of these books are translations from foreign-language originals, thus reflecting the care system applied abroad, not in the Czech Republic. However, this book comes directly from the environment of domestic LDNs, which makes it valuable.
