It is important to find your roots
The novel is inspired by the fate of the author's German great-great-grandmother, whose family went through the infamous internment camp for Germans in Nové Hodolany in May 1945, nicknamed the Hodolany Hell. Anastasia, a young journalist, is going through a personal and professional crisis and seeks refuge with her beloved grandmother. One day her grandmother starts telling her about the fate of the family. Her recollections of the post-war days are interwoven with a depiction of the horrors experienced by the German inhabitants of Olomouc. Several thousand were interned and at least 235 died in the infamous camp in Nové Hodolany, nicknamed the Hodolany Hell. My grandmother's closest relatives also went through this horrific experience and were eventually deported to Bavaria. Story, which gradually unfolds before Anastasia's astonished eyes, who had no idea of such a thing until now, is interspersed with authentic contemporary documents, memories of displaced Germans from Olomouc, experiences of people interned in the internment camps and memories of the author's grandmother.
The audiobook is published with the kind support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
