African winter

South Sudan, the world's youngest nation, has been plagued by armed conflict for decades. At the beginning of 2017, Tomáš Šebek, a physician, travels to food-insecure places where infectious and tropical diseases thrive as one of the representatives of the international organization Doctors Without Borders. After his experience with trauma surgery in Haiti and war medicine in Afghanistan, he finds himself in an environment where a traditional healer has far more respect than a Western-trained doctor. Compared to fixing fractures with paper or pouring boiling water on them, the surgical team's reputation in the eyes of the locals can only be raised by performing the first surgery on the brain of a South Sudanese teenager in the absolute wasteland surrounding the hospital in Agok. Tomáš Šebek's notes in a unique rendition by Lukáš Hlavić present an original view of places that are not available in the media.
