After Ecstasy Laundry

Many spiritual stories end with enlightenment or profound insight. And these experiences are more common than we might sometimes think. But what comes next? What happens when a Christian mystic has to go shopping? When a Zen master returns home to his wife and children? The author assures us that there are no fully enlightened, egoless sages or saints who are free from all temptation. Even after a significant personal transformation, something weak and fragile remains in each of us. Something that has to deal with ordinary worries.
The author has studied numerous spiritual stories and writings and has spoken with many monks, nuns, lamas, rabbis, yogis, masters, and teachers from a wide variety of spiritual traditions about how to manage everyday relationships, emotional pain, illness, loss, how to earn a living, and how to face death, even after a “peak experience”. Kornfield comes to the realisation that practising acceptance, compassion, and kindness in life is a lifelong process.
