Alexandre Dumas: The Three Musketeers (1960)

One for all, all for one! This slogan of the heroes of Alexander Dumas' classic historical novel has become humanised. The fact that the adventures of the three royal musketeers and their young friend d'Artagnan have been filmed in several forms has certainly played a part in this. Another adaptation of the famous novel, this time in a lesser-known adaptation from the Pilsen radio studio in 1961. Alexandre Dumas was no historian, but his novels have a solid historical basis. The French often read much more about the history of their country and the connections between the different historical stages of European history than in textbooks and scholarly works. His astonishing narrative gift was able to perfectly portray the exciting French world over many centuries and in many different social conditions, developing it in vivid detail brought to life by people of all conditions and characters. Athos, Porthos, Aramis and de Artagnan, the three musketeers, to which a fourth has been added, go through a troubled life together in the service of the King and Queen of France at the beginning of the XVII. century.
