Amos with us and the bad away

What goes around comes around... There are many ways to tackle the ailments of the Czech education system, for example, through public pillorying. Antonín Václavík's playful book takes a different, more roundabout approach, offering a significantly more original perspective on the situation of today's teachers. The author knows from practical experience that the teaching profession in our country isn't as desperate as is sometimes written and said. At the same time, he believes that where things are creaking, something other than shaming teachers is needed. Therefore, in the interest of quality teaching and to strengthen the relationship between school and family, he presents an eloquent parade of pedagogical missteps, with a density of wit that would hold its own among top stand-up comedians. Because humour is the gateway through which much good can be smuggled into the souls of others.

Antonín Václavík (1975), a native of Hustopeče, has lived in Brno since 1997. He started teaching at a primary school in 2000 and has remained true to this profession to this day. He completed his Master's and doctoral studies in pedagogy at Masaryk University and has recently also been involved in lecturing teachers. He wrote the book 'Ámos s námi a zlé pryč' because, in this fast-paced era of changes in education, he felt the need to gently draw attention to what is truly essential: the honest craft of teaching.
