Ladislav Beran, a well-known author from Písek, an emeritus commissioner of the criminal service, presents several stories from the late 1930s, when the legendary gendarmerie search station was gaining fame in Písek. Staff Captain Votruba, the experienced commander of the search party, is not only able to cope with some of the faults of his subordinates, but he is also able to win the respect of the then, still unfixable galley.
