When men exchange fertile fields for war fields, housewives and mothers become householders
Jana Poncarová's new novel, based on correspondence from the First World War that was preserved in the attic of the author's cottage in Dobřív near Rokycany, is an authentic testimony about the life of one family. Letters more than a hundred years old reveal the real story and their writers come to life. František Reindl, the owner of a large farm, goes to war, the meaning of which is alien to him. The burden of managing the farm rests on the shoulders of his wife Anna, who has to face not only loneliness but also the anger of the people. For the sake of her two small children, she endures endless toil and numerous hardships. She is sustained by František's letters and the hope that one day the fighting will end.
