A mysterious fire, boxes full of money and an enigmatic disappearance. Is it possible to completely erase the sins of the past?
William Wisting is summoned to a meeting with the public prosecutor, where he learns that the estate of the recently deceased former Minister of Health and Foreign Affairs, Bernhard Clausen, has been found at his cabin, an inheritance inconsistent with the image of an upright politician. National interests may be at stake, and the matter must therefore be investigated in such a way that neither the media nor the public find out about it. During the secret investigation, clues emerge leading to the case of a missing fisherman at Lake Gjersjø, which is being investigated by Adrian Stiller, a detective from the Kripos cold case unit. Wisting has no choice but to work with him again.
