Balonová Tereza: Zhasni den - CD

Following last year's successful tour with the band Jelen, where she received enthusiastic ovations from the audience, including at the sold-out Forum Karlín, Tereza Balonová is releasing her debut original EP, Zhasni den. At only eighteen years old, the singer with a captivating voice and an exceptional feel for interpretation confirms her extraordinary talent on this release, a collaboration with producer Martin Ledvina.

Three tracks on Tereza Balonová's debut EP—V peřinách, the title track Zhasni den, and Neposloucháš—are her own compositions, complemented by an impressive duet with singer-songwriter Aleš Petržela, K nezkrocení. In his studio, producer Martin Ledvina brought all her strengths to the forefront, especially her distinctive voice with its strong emotional colouring and a performance confidence unheard of for her age.

Her songs exude such profound experience that a listener would expect a seasoned singer behind the microphone, not a girl who is just eighteen. “Tereza seamlessly moves from one instrument to another, doing whatever she wants with each one. She possesses an angelic voice that is unparalleled in its maturity and emotional depth. Her lyrics immediately drew me into the story with their profundity. Working with such an artist is a privilege and a pure delight,” says Martin Ledvina.

Besides her unique vocal qualities, Balonová also stands out as a talented songwriter and an excellent guitarist. She has been playing her main instrument since she was six, and at just twelve, she was already competing with her first original songs at the Porta folk festival. Five years later, she won it, thanks to her authentic performance and exceptional talent.

“When my parents took me to a Metallica concert at Eden at the age of eight, it was such a powerful experience for me that I knew immediately what I wanted to do,” she recalls. However, a performance by the folk group Čechomor had a similarly significant effect on her. “I ran away from my mum and dad and rushed to the front row, where I looked at the musicians' feet to see what they were doing. I wanted to be able to do that too,” laughs Balonová, who played competitive volleyball for many years. But in the end, music won.

At her concerts, she manages on her own with a guitar and a looper—a device that records and layers sounds on top of each other. “I was inspired to use a looper by Ed Sheeran. I saw videos on the internet of all the things he could do with it, and shortly after, I bought my first basic device with my pocket money. I learned everything I needed on it,” explains the performer, describing how she works intuitively and learns new skills. Over time, she also mastered playing the drums and keyboards.

She has already completed a tour with the band Jelen, with whom she toured large venues last year before Christmas, including Prague's Forum Karlín. It was this final concert that she says brought her the greatest euphoria. “I will never forget it; it was a dream come true for me. Suddenly, I was the performer standing in front of a full hall with everyone looking at my feet.”
