Baron Trenck: A Pact with the Grim Reaper
The legendary commander of the Austrian army, Baron Trenck, awaits his last great journey
Baron Trenck marches from one battlefield to another. This time he is summoned to Bohemia, to carry out a task that no one but his pandurs can handle. He engages in difficult and unequal battles in the south of the country and emerges victorious. It seems as if nothing and no one can stop him. However, even he cannot avoid serious injury. But the greatest danger ultimately awaits him not on the battlefield, but in Vienna, where local schemers are trying to destroy him at all costs. They are powerful and use weapons that Trenck despises.
František Niedl
František Niedl was born on 7th April 1949 in České Budějovice and studied at the Secondary Technical School of Electrical Engineering. He has worked as an electrician, a hydroelectric power plant operator, a substation operator, a driving instructor, and was the owner of a travel agency. He is currently involved in building a yacht club on the Lipno reservoir and in literary activities. He is married and has two sons. He loves nature, motorbikes, horses, yachting, literature and history. After the publication of his first novel, there was a thirteen-year hiatus. After the revolution, the author preferred experiencing real-life adventures to inventing them in literature, and went into business. However, after ten years, he was so worn out by his business adventures that he humbly returned to writing, preferring to let his fictional heroes be tormented instead. In addition to novels, he also writes short stories, which appear in newspaper supplements, are broadcast on the radio, and are also published in book form.
