Barry Lyndon - DVD

How does an Irish youth with no future become part of 18th century English nobility? Barry Lyndon's answer, directed by Stanley Kubrick, is succinct: in any way possible!

Barry is an aspiring marriage seeker, a participant in the fights, Initiative, a soldier in the Seven Years' War, flamendr, A spy and a fake card player are both stops on his journey up the ladder of wealth and status in this sumptuous Stanley Kubrick film version of William Makepeace Thackery's novel.

To master this beautifully constructed and slyly satirical film, Kubrick was inspired by the works of painters of the time. The costumes and sets were carefully crafted in period style, and innovative lenses were developed for shooting interiors and exteriors in natural light.
And the result? Barry Lyndon endures as a landmark film that brings a historical period to the screen as vividly as any film before or since.
