Basics of statistics
The publication Fundamentals of Statistics provides elementary knowledge of statistical theory and explains the essence of statistical data processing. It presents an interpretation of statistics in a simple way that emphasizes the basics of statistical work and inference, while still adequately respecting the exact background of the discipline. It does this through appropriately structured content and expresses itself in simple and understandable language.
It does not only pay attention to the three pillars of statistics – probability, theoretical models and empirical models – but above all to their interconnection, against which he explains the essence of statistical thinking. The book is intended primarily for students of economic and technical faculties of universities, but it will be useful for all other students interested in statistics.
Each chapter is accompanied by a set of exercises to practice the material. Interpretation, but especially the use of statistics without a computer, is no longer possible nowadays. However, readers of this publication will not need any expensive software. The authors of the title use their own application STAT1, which is a very simple tool that works under the widely used MS Excel program, to explain and solve practical problems.
In the third edition of the book, the authors have modified and expanded Chapter 11, which contains the issues of dependency analysis, especially the use of contingency tables and regression analysis. This section was supplemented by an analysis of variance.
The current form of the textbook thus covers the usual topics taught in basic statistics courses at most universities. This has added chapters to the book, expanding it so that it now covers the full range of methods commonly used in statistical data analysis.
