Beastie Boys: Paul's Boutique (2018 Reissue) - LP

Beastie Boys are a three-piece American hip-hop group formed in New York in 1979. They started out as a hardcore punk band called Young And The Useless. In 1982, they released their debut EP Polly Wog Stew.

Over time, they shifted their focus towards rap, which led to the arrival of live collaborator and future producer DJ Double RR (born Rick Rubin). After signing with Def Jam Recordings in 1984, they supported Madonna on her US tour. It was only then that the band's line-up finalised into its current form.

Their 1986 debut album Licensed to Ill became the first-ever rap record to top the US charts. The album sold in hundreds of thousands, eventually going 9× platinum. Their second effort, Paul's Boutique, produced by the Dust Brothers, was a commercial flop, but in later years it received critical acclaim and became a fan favourite. Subsequent albums were highly successful, mostly topping the US and global charts.

The group's official DJ was originally André "Doctor Dré" Brown, who was later permanently replaced by Hurricane. In 1998, Mixmaster Mike took over the decks. In the 1980s, they also appeared in several films, including Krush Groove (1985). Adam Yauch passed away on 4 May 2012.
