There are a million reasons not to like real estate agent Oren Little ( Michael Douglas ), and that' s exactly what he likes. He is deliberately annoying to anyone who crosses his path, and he wants nothing more than to sell his last house and retire in peace and quiet.

So while he is looking for his big real estate ending, he spends time in his house with four apartments. He usually avoids his neighbors, ie if he is not complaining about the noise made by their children, or if he does not take up the entire driveway with his Mercedes. Even Leah ( Diane Keaton ), who, despite his grumpiness, persistently invites me to a mojito, receives only strong rejections. He can hang out with the only person who is his old girlfriend and colleague Claire, and only because they have known each other for decades, and mainly because she can be as sarcastic and annoying as well as he is.

Oren' s life turns upside down when Luke' s son unexpectedly appears at his door and asks him to temporarily take care of his nine-year-old daughter Sarah, whose existence Oren had no idea existed. When Sarah literally appears at his doorstep, Oren reluctantly agrees to take her on. But in a flash, he throws her at Leah, who can' t refuse Oren' s absurd expectation that she will simply manage everything so that he can continue his life so far without any change.

But Sarah gradually brings Oren and Leah closer together and allows them to see the other part of the other. Oren soon discovers that Leah is more than just a few extra hands helping him with Sarah. And Leah recognizes that Oren' s inaccessible exterior is just a skin that obscures humanity trying to break out. And so they fight together with funny, joyful, embarrassing and sometimes strong moments of their new reality.
