Emil Holub returned to Prague in 1878 after a seven-year stay in South Africa. He will bring with him the collection he offered free of charge to the Museum of the Bohemian Kingdom. However, his gift is rejected and Holub accepts an offer from Vienna, where they are interested in displaying his collection. There he meets Růžena, his future wife. He is saving money for his next expedition to Africa, where he wants to discover the sources of the Nile. Little does he know that his next journey will be very dramatic.
Miloš Makovec's film won the VII. IFF Karlovy Vary in 1952, where the architect Miroslav Hrachovec and the cinematographer Vladimír Novotný received an artistic prize for the film in the same year.
