About the Author, Kristýna Sněgoňová
A somewhat mysterious woman, a young writer who emerged from nowhere a few years ago, only to start effortlessly winning genre competitions and conquering one award after another. She is a multiple winner of the Lady Řádu fantasy and Nositelka meče awards, a winner of the Karel Čapek Prize, and a holder of the Mlok award, as well as winner of competitions like Vidoucí and others.
She began her literary career by winning the O brahmíní vemeno competition with the short story Zrůdy by měly držet spolu (Monsters Should Stick Together, 2009). After a creative break during which she focused on sports, she wrote countless short stories and novellas, because winning the 'vemeno' (udder) award comes with obligations. To the delight of her family from the Vault of the Mad Brahmins, she also wrote a short story that became the basis for Krev pro rusalku (Blood for the Rusalka) – it was called Krvavý kožíšek (The Bloody Fur Coat) and at the time, it only caused general disappointment that it wasn't a young adult novel about losing one's virginity.
Her works can be found in many collections. She first appeared in Pevnost magazine as the winner of the Vidoucí competition with the short story Zadostiučinění (Satisfaction, Pevnost 03/2015). In 2017, she repeated this success with the short stories O snílcích a snovačích (Of Dreamers and Weavers, Pevnost 03/2017) and Sobotní směna (Saturday Shift, Pevnost 12/2017). Her short stories are also appearing with increasing regularity in anthologies, such as Ve stínu Říše (In the Shadow of the Empire, 2017), where she astonished and terrified readers with the story “Na vlastní kůži” (First-Hand), and in the loose sequel anthology Ve stínu apokalypsy (In the Shadow of the Apocalypse, 2018). However, Kristýna didn't stick to just writing short stories.
After the successful novel Krev pro rusalku (Blood for the Rusalka, 2018), which saw a second edition in 2021, she ventured into Brno with the fantasy novel Zřídla (The Fountains, 2019). This was followed by the sci-fi series Města (Cities), which so far includes the novels Město v oblacích (City in the Clouds, 2020) and Země v troskách (Earth in Ruins, 2021). Last but not least, she has also contributed to the anthologies Lockdown (2021), Krásky a vetřelci: Pulp stories (Beauties and Aliens: Pulp Stories, 2021), and Zákon genu (The Law of the Gene, 2022). Since 2020, she has been working with František Kotleta on the sci-fi series Legie (Legion), a space opera that is as dark, action-packed, and entertaining as the coldness of space allows.
