Blood is my bread

Laird Barron (*1970), considered to be the grey eminence of American horror, this time comes with a gritty thriller. "Blood is My Bread" is the first volume of a new series featuring Isaiah Coleridge, the son of a Maori beauty and an American officer who, after twenty years in the Chicago mob, is kicked out of its ranks and sets out on his own to find a young black girl. Barron has created a whole new literary world in this series, set in the hot present. It features mobsters, gangs, racism, the war in Iraq and the dirty practices of the FBI. The plot, spiced with sarcastic comments by the unforgettable main character, who has to keep poking into wasps' nests, is full of action. and blood.
