Nora Stephens is a successful and formidable (young and beautiful) literary agent who lives for her work and loves her life in New York. This is probably why her relationships never work out. The only important person in Nora's life is her twin sister, Libby, and her family. She has no one else. When she meets the handsome (and obnoxious) editor Charlie Lastra at a work lunch, their personalities immediately clash. And it’s not just that – although Charlie has a witty, clever comeback for everything, he's arrogant, constantly grumpy, and clearly can't stand her. What's more, he rejected the manuscript of Nora's best author.
Imagine Nora's surprise when, two years later, she bumps into Charlie in a sleepy little town in North Carolina, the setting of the very manuscript he rejected, which has since become a bestseller. Nora is there for a month, staying in a cottage with her pregnant sister – one of the goals of their summer trip (at least for Libby) is to sort Nora's life out, finally find her a proper man, strengthen their sisterly bond, and maybe even reveal some very important news.
But how is Nora supposed to find someone when she keeps running into Charlie, with whom she shares a passion for books, New York, and apparently many other things... When their conversations are full of sharp wit and their meetings spark, just waiting to ignite. Could it be that Charlie isn't just a side character in her story after all?
This romantic comedy, one of the most anticipated books of 2022 and winner of the Goodreads Best Romance Award 2022, references the best of the genre from Jane Austen to Nora Ephron and features small-town humour reminiscent of the TV series Gilmore Girls. It is published in a translation by Tereza Libichová.
