Boyhood - DVD

Boyhood is an exceptional film. Director Richard Linklater (Before Nightfall, Before Midnight) wanted to make the coming-of-age story of an ordinary boy as honest as possible, which is why he worked on it for twelve years.

Every year, for three or four shooting days, the same line-up of actors and filmmakers came together to film another piece in the mosaic of a lifetime. The result is a film that is extraordinary in its ordinariness and also in the incredibly diverse range of emotions it manages to wring out of its audience. Mason (Ellar Coltrane) is a likable six-year-old who lives with his older sister Sam (Lorelei Linklater) and mom (Patricia Arquette) after their parents divorce.

However, both children see their dad (Ethan Hawke) regularly and have a friendly relationship with him. This is Mason's initial life situation, from which he sets out towards adolescence, adolescence and adulthood. Along the way she passes many acquaintances and friends, first and second loves, conflicts and reconciliations with her sister and mother, and other crossroads in life that we all know so intimately.
