Božena Němcová Correspondence 1844-1862

Božena Němcová Correspondence 1844-1862
A woman of unprecedented literary talent, fascinating appearance and the ability to win people over and listen to them entered Czech literary life in its visible heyday, around 1844. She was brought among the patriots by her husband Josef Němec. Young, beautiful and clever Božena charmed everyone. She created a circle of friends and acquaintances from the environment of Czech patriotic society, i.e. the recipients of her letters. The correspondence may have contributed to the birth of Němcová the writer. She had a strong need to write about what she saw around her, creating almost "reportage" passages in her private letters.
Out of the 300 surviving letters, we have selected those that characterize the various periods of the writer's life. From hope and joy to disillusionment and bitterness, from amorous enthusiasm to despair. This title is a continuation, in cooperation with Czech Television, of the four-part series on the life of Božena Němcová, which premiered in January 2021.
Anya Geisler reads authentic letters by the writer, with Igor Orozovich explaining the realities.
