BraAgas: About Birds and Fish - CD

The band BraAgas is known as an all-female group that brilliantly interprets folk music from all over Europe, using a variety of ethnic and historical instruments. The group has delivered a delightful surprise with their new, sixth album, featuring exquisite arrangements of Moravian folk songs. The album contains 13 recordings of mostly lesser-known songs; only two, Husičky and Brodil Janík koně, are among the more frequently performed pieces.

BraAgas's characteristic signature is very evident even in these Moravian folk songs, particularly in the power of the female vocals and the use of original historical instruments such as the nyckelharpa, cittern, bagpipes, and shawms. The group, a leader in the domestic world music scene, won the Anděl Award in 2009 in the World Music category for the CD Tapas and again in 2014 for Yallah!. They have performed at the Rainforest World Music Festival in Malaysian Borneo, the Sur Jahan festival in India, and many world music and historical events both at home and abroad.
