In one of his most famous novels, the author depicted the last years of the life of Záviš of Falkenštejn, a prominent figure of the late 13th century. Záviš' s life was full of twists and turns, ups and downs. He was a brave and ambitious man, advisor to the young Wenceslas II, the husband of two important women, Kunhuta of Hungary and Elizabeth of Kuman, a feared figure, which interfered in the struggles for influence and power positions. What led to his tragic end under Hluboká Castle? Through historically known and forgotten characters, the author managed to perfectly depict the atmosphere of the period and literally draw the reader into the center of a turbulent period in Czech history.
