Brooklyn - DVD

When a young girl moves from the middle of nowhere to one of the biggest cities in the world, she's in for quite a culture shock. That's exactly what happens in the 1950s to Eilis (Saoirse Ronan), who is persuaded to embark on this adventure by her older sister. She wants a better future for Eilis than a life of drudgery in Ireland. Eilis sets off across the ocean, on a journey from the small Irish town of Enniscorthy to the New York borough of Brooklyn.

She journeys into the unknown, to a place that she initially has nothing in common with, and into a life she did not choose for herself. Finding herself in a foreign world, she feels like an exile and succumbs to longing for her old life in her native Enniscorthy. But after she meets a handsome Italian worker, her homesickness slowly begins to fade.
Eilis starts to get a taste for life in bustling New York. But then, an event forces her to return to her native Ireland, where she is drawn back into her former life and also finds a new love. She finds herself caught between the two voices of her own heart and must choose between the world she came from and the world where she can fulfil her dream.
