Buses of the First Republic and the Protectorate

The story of the production of buses (and trolleybuses) in Czechoslovakia between 1918 and 1948 is as complicated as the history of our country. The largest part of the market was dominated by the three main Czechoslovak car companies: Praga, Tatra and Skoda. However, there were also smaller manufacturers and, alongside them, dozens of small and large coachbuilders who built bus bodies on various domestic and foreign chassis.

In this book we will learn about the beginnings of bus and trolleybus production in our country, its heyday in the 1920s and its decline during the economic crisis and the changes brought about by the years of the Second World War. Here you will find an overview of all the major types produced, construction details, technical parameters, and above all a wealth of unique, often never before published photographs.

Technical information is supplemented with related interesting facts: we will also learn about the fate of important coachbuilders (Sodomka, Carbon, Peter and others), a brief history of postal and railway buses, we'll take a look at the city's bus and trolley service, on travel from the perspective of drivers and passengers, or on different alternative drives, used, for example, in the war years.
