Cermaque: Neboj - CD

Poet, director and singer-songwriter Jakub Čermák, who performs as Cermaque, has recorded his eighth album, entitled Neboj (Don't Be Afraid), with friends. The songs on the album are a reaction to social developments in the Czech Republic and the world in recent years.

In them, Jakub talks about fear, the confusion of languages, and a divided society, but above all—about hope. The album also features the song Ortely (Verdicts), created in collaboration with Ondřej Slavík and guest artist Marie Kieslowski, which Jakub Čermák wrote in response to the victory of the nationalist group Ortel in the Český Slavík awards public vote. “We live together in a complicated world,” says Jakub Čermák, “and it is essential that we name complicated things as accurately as possible and have a dialogue about them.

But that dialogue must be motivated by love, hope, and mutuality—not by overblown fear, nationalism, or false propaganda.” Chris Strandh, Aid Kid, Néro Scartch, Ondra Slavík, Jan Kratochvíl, Iamme Candlewick, Beata Bocek, Asstma, Jarda Svoboda, Kaia Mach, Julie Goetzová, Guy Mintus, Shlomi Mor, Jarda Noga, Kittchen, Marie Kieslowski, Tom Háček, Pája Kopřivová, Ondřej Ježek. All of them contributed to this new record, whose fundamental intention is to tell Czech society, “Don't be afraid!”
