Wormhole

All the houses preserve the history of those who live in them. This one stands on the edge of a remote Spanish village, its walls telling of voices echoing under the bed and disappearances that may never be explained. Neighbors are shunning the two residents. Grandma spends her days talking to the shadows that dwell behind walls and inside closets. The granddaughter returns to the house after an incident with the local richest family. As the mysterious plot unravels, the suspicion creeps into the mind that the characters, the house and the narrative itself are falling apart as if eaten by a worm. In this stunning debut, the author combines black humour with folklore and Catholic tradition. She lends strong voices to the grandmother and granddaughter, who alternately tell us a story of revenge, violence and class struggle.
