Children's pre-hospital and emergency care
The great success of the first and second editions of the book led to the preparation of a third, expanded and supplemented publication. Pediatric emergency and prehospital care is a constantly and rapidly developing field. With increasing demands on the knowledge and skills of pre-hospital care workers, pediatric emergency departments, and trauma centers, there is a need to provide them with a modern, reasonably comprehensive, and sufficiently clear textbook.
The third edition is again conceived as a collective monograph consisting of a general and a special part. The general chapters describe the elementary principles of pre-hospital care and basic data on pediatric physiology and pharmacology, while the special section subsequently collects data on specific emergency conditions of both internal and surgical nature that come into consideration in childhood.
Most of the book' s chapters are updated based on the latest scientific findings and comments from the professional community and reviewers. In addition, the publication has been expanded with new chapters, including those dealing with emergencies in pediatric diabetology and the specifics of diseases caused by COVID-19 infection in children. Attention was also paid to simulation medicine, legal contexts and ethical issues of emergency medicine. The conclusion of the book was left to overviews, tables, and an extensive chapter on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which incorporated the latest 2021 guidelines from the European Resuscitation Council.
The target group of readers remains pediatricians, both practical and clinical, emergency room workers, both physicians and non-physicians, anesthesiologists and pediatric intensivists, students of medical and non-medical medical schools, paramedics and medical staff.
