Children's pre-hospital and emergency care
Pediatric emergency and prehospital care is a rapidly developing field in recent times. With the increasing demands on the knowledge and skills of pre-hospital care workers, paediatric emergency admissions and trauma centres, there is a need to provide them with an adequately comprehensive and sufficiently clear textbook. Therefore, in autumn 2017, Children's prehospital and emergency care by Mix, Heinige, Vobruba et al. The book has been extremely well received by the medical and non-medical public, students and many other workers whose profession involves encounters with sick or injured children.
The book quickly became a sought-after reference. But nowadays it no longer requires major transportation.
The second, supplemented and expanded edition is again conceived as a monograph consisting of a general part, in which the basic principles of pre-hospital care are described, as well as basic data from paediatric physiology and pharmacology. The special section collects data on specific emergencies of both internal and surgical nature that come into consideration in childhood.
Compared to the first edition, most of the chapters have been updated according to the latest scientific findings and the comments of experts and reviewers. Chapters have been added on emergency conditions in paediatric gynaecology and cardiology, and a chapter on mass casualties. The conclusion of the book was again left to overviews, tables and an extensive chapter on cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The format of the book has been changed from a small pocket size to the usual monograph format. We anticipate greater clarity and easier handling of this now quite extensive publication.
The target group of readers is paediatricians, both general and clinical, emergency room staff, both doctors and non-medical, anaesthesiologists and paediatric intensivists, students of medical and non-medical medical schools, emergency medical and non-medical.
