We take churches in the Czech landscape for granted: stand in almost every village, dominating town squares and city skylines. For the faithful, the church is a place of spiritual rest. But it is also a cultural treasure, a unique collection of the top creative achievements of its time and place.
To present this wealth to readers in a single book was no easy task. Out of a total of more than seven thousand churches and chapels, it was necessary to select only one hundredth to represent the entire number across the millennium.
Hopefully, our book will take you to many of the selected places. Because only there awaits the unique genius loci, the spirit of a place that is always an unmistakable sum of sacred reverence and admirable artistic excitement.
