Cibulkova Vilma: Heda Gablerova (2x CD) - CD

When Henrik Ibsen published Heda Gabler in 1890, critics called the title character a monster. In connection with its performance at the National Theatre in 1911, F. X. Šalda wrote of the protagonist that she was "the devil incarnate, desolate and parched inwardly, bringing death to the man on whom she rested her gaze".
The production, recorded in 2000 by Czech Radio, took full advantage of the possibilities offered by the drama's multiple meanings for the portrayal of contemporary women. Thanks to the energetic, but Vilma Cibulka's soberly civil and psychologically sophisticated performance in the lead role gives us a portrait of an intelligent woman, who doesn't want to give in to illusions, but out of his own self-importance, will set a trap for the world and their partners, that she's stuck in. Her desire to live "with vines in her hair" does not so much refer to Nietzsche's Dionysian titanism as to the joyful existence of the whole person, not limited to social, professional or gender roles and functions.
Starring: Vilma Cibulkova, Ivan Trojan, Lukas Hlavica, Milena Dvorská, Dana Cerna, Viktor Preiss, Marie Marešová
Arrangement and direction by Hana Kofrankova.
