Civil Engineering I for Secondary School of Civil Engineering
The first volume in the series of textbooks Building Construction I-VIII for secondary technical schools of civil engineering aims to introduce the subject of building design to students who are encountering this field for the first time. The goal is to familiarise students with basic terminology, classifications, and requirements for buildings, and to provide a fundamental overview of building structural systems. However, a complete understanding of some chapters in this textbook requires more detailed knowledge of structural elements and their behaviour, which will be more comprehensible for students in higher years of study. The textbook is divided into seven chapters. The first three chapters are an introduction to the topic, dealing with the basic classification of buildings, the requirements for their design, and the main principles of design, including historical development and trends and directions for the future development of buildings. Chapter four generally describes the structural system, its elements, and their interaction. The remaining three chapters contain an overview of building structural systems.
