Joe Cocker, born John Robert Cocker OBE (* May 20, 1944, Sheffield, England) is an English rock and blues singer, holder of the Order of the British Empire.

He became famous in the 60' s thanks to his characteristic hoarse voice and cover versions of popular songs (e. g. Beatles). In 1961, he began his career singing in Sheffield pubs.

He has received several awards, including a 1983 Grammy Award for the song Up Where We Belong, which he sang with Jennifer Warnes. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 97th place as the best singer
