Come Back, Sabine - DVD

Based on William Inge's classic play, this fascinating story of a weary married couple who find remnants of hope in the ruins of their past. Shirley Booth gives an Oscar-winning performance here as Lola Delaney, a neglected and garrulous housewife whose life alongside her currently abstinent husband Doc (Burt Lancaster) is dull, empty and unchanging. But things change dramatically when the couple take in a charming lodger, student Maria (Terry Moore), who gradually becomes the daughter the Delaneys never had. But when Marie finds a boorish boyfriend, Doc falls into fits of jealousy and must once again face the temptation of alcohol. The unforgettable film, chilling in its truth of life and emotional intensity, also earned an Oscar nomination for
