Nell Stevens’s life is one big mess
When Nell’s café business fails, and her relationship along with it, the 'happily ever after' she’d planned in California is over. She moves back to London to start again, but a lot has changed. All her single friends are now married with children, and soaring rents force her to rent a room in a stranger's house. In a world of perfect lives presented on Instagram, she feels like a total failure. Even worse, a failure in her forties.
But when Nell lands a job writing obituaries, she meets the fabulous Cricket, an octogenarian widow dealing with her own problems, and an unlikely friendship blossoms between them. As they help each other heal their broken hearts and cope with lives that haven't gone to plan, they guide one another towards new adventures and unexpected joys. After all of life's ups and downs, Nell is determined to make sure the next year will be completely different. It's time to turn her life around.
