Cremulator
Petr Ilyich Nesterenko maintains an intimate daily relationship with death. As the first director of the Moscow crematorium, built in 1927, he worked two shifts - cremating ordinary Soviet citizens during the day and those arrested by the secret police and sent to the execution ground at night. Nesterenko burned them all: opponents of the regime, alleged spies and former heroes of the revolution. He worked in the crematorium until 1941, when he met the same fate as those whose bodies he cremated - the NKVD came for him and he was accused of espionage. His life story and incredible fate gave birth to this documentary novel. Behind every scene, there is also a reflection of the socio-political situation of today. The allegory is clear: the cruelest crematorium is history. A history for which one man is utterly insignificant.
