Crisis

Harrison Foster is a lawyer specialising in crisis resolution. After a fire at trainer Ryan Chadwick's stables in which six very valuable horses die, including the Derby favourite, he is called from London to Newmarket. Harry discovers that it was probably not a simple fire, and human remains are also found at the scene. None of the employees are missing, so who's the burn victim? Harry knows very little about horses, doesn't really like them, but is unwittingly drawn into a world that pays more attention to thoroughbred horse stars than to humans. The Chadwicks are a racing dynasty with dysfunctional family relationships. There is resentment and sibling rivalry between the generations, simmering like volcanic magma beneath a fragile layer of respectability. Harry represents the owner of a burnt-out Derby favourite, and when he delves deeper into unanswered questions about the horse's death, he finds his life in danger.
