Cruel moralities

Five shorter prose pieces from the pen of a well-known French author of the 18th and early 19th century. These are texts that Sade - unlike much of his work - signed in his own name. Man in his conception is predestined to evil, and the pursuit of virtue is punished; in the short stories collected in this volume, however, gives the stories a certain moralistic framework: The hardships caused by the innocence of vice are presented as a warning. The cultivated style of the stories puts the Marquis de Sade in a completely different light than we have known him in. The volume concludes with an insightful afterword by Jindřich Veselý.
